The key to success?

Sales Placement Contract People is celebrating providing the key to success for 21 years so Ulster Grocer met Managing Director Allan Rutherford to find out how a local recruitment and field marketing company could boast long standing relationships with many of the UK and Ireland’s top companies.

Sales Placement Contract People Ltd is part of the Contract People Group of Companies, with offices in Belfast and Dublin and, with a combined turnover of Ł12.5m, is one of the leading sales and marketing recruitment, contracting and field marketing companies in Ireland. “We’re very proud of the relationships we have with many of the UK’s, Southern Ireland’s and Northern Ireland’s leading organisations. I suppose you could say at 21 we’ve reached maturity and we’ve worked very hard to help our clients grow their business,” explained Allan Rutherford.

“I feel very privileged that we can say our customers have been loyal to us, but I know 21 years of experience doesn’t count for much unless they see measurable and successful results. As a provider of staff for those clients, it makes sense that we ourselves employ a talented and experienced team. In fact, that’s one of the reasons we do stand out from our competitors. The other reason is trust - we prove to our clients that they can trust us with their business. We also consistently provide an excellent service. I think a lot of service providers forget something as fundamental as that.” As a result of this growth and due to their contribution to the business over the last number of years, SPCPL has appointed two new Directors. June Wilson becomes Director of Permanent Recruitment with a view to managing and developing the company’s existing business. June has been employed at SPCPL since March 2001 and has successfully grown her FMCG sector year-on-year. At the same time, Russell Johnston has been appointed Director of Client Services with responsibility for managing and developing SPCPL’s outsourced business, which includes Contracted Merchandising, Auditing, Field Marketing, Mystery Shopping, Warehousing and Point of Sale Management. Russell joined SPCPL in August 2000 and has progressed from the role of Account Manager.

CUSTOMER-FOCUSED ATTITUDE
“The success of Sales Placement Contract People has been built on our professional approach and customer-focused attitude and we have always stood firm on our commitment to confidentiality to our clients and candidates,” continued Allan. “We are continually working to improve the quality and levels of service provided for our vast and varied range of clients. As a company we pride ourselves on working closely with our clients. From the outset of an assignment, we work hand in hand with the client to ensure our field staff adopt their corporate culture.

“Our mission is to deliver client satisfaction and, thus, satisfaction for our clients’ customers. To this end we are continually looking at ways to enhance and improve our service. Flexibility is the key to our success and, as a result, we have an extensive range of services tailored to our clients’ needs - they know that they can turn to use for help in resolving any type of problem and have complete confidence in the outcome.”

Sales Placement Contract People has firmly stood by its principals and business ethics within a much changing recruitment industry. June Wilson, Director of Permanent Recruitment, and her team ensure we only source and provide the right people for the job. “We don’t have a high street agency presence or approach and I say that with some pride. We specialise in providing sales and marketing personnel within in all business sectors. It’s our consultancy approach to providing the right staff which has led to many of our staff being converted to permanent staff with our clients,” explained June.

RETURN ON INVESTMENT
Equally Russell Johnston, Director of Client Services, and his Field Marketing Team have an unparalleled bank of experienced Field Marketing Representatives. “The team continually provides comprehensive, innovative and flexible field marketing solutions, such as hand held technology and an interactive website at which clients can check for updates on their work,” said Russell. “We offer Field Marketing services either on a tactical or strategic basis and believe our services provide return on investment due to:

  • Cost-effective solutions with agreed budgetary control
  • Freeing up your time, and your team’s time, to concentrate on your ‘core business’
  • Taking advantage of our specific experience and expertise both ‘in-house’ and in the field
  • Being able to implement field activities at short notice
  • Implementing our specific technology
  • Being able to overcome seasonality in the market efficiently
  • Reduction of labour-intensive activities
We fulfill all administrative tasks of the project.

“The field marketing sector has developed and grown over the past couple of years and, in my opinion, we have improved our service, our efficiency and our professionalism constantly throughout this time,” continued Russell. “We have strived to focus our services on return on investment for our clients and have introduced a number of new initiatives to achieve this, including:
  • We have invested heavily in technology, allowing for real time reporting for our clients through the use of handheld technology, web-based reporting and a major focus on reporting the right data in the right format for our clients.
  • We have invested in having the ‘key people’ in ‘key positions’ and now have a team with the expertise and experience of handling large volumes of work at short notice, both in the office and field-based.
  • We pride ourselves on learning from every project we have worked on to take ‘best practice’ forward.
“We are able to positively influence the product life cycle of any product or service right from carrying out audits on specific markets to aid strategic planning through to merchandising and placing POS to ensure promotional compliance. With our team of experienced field and office staff we can mobilise specialist teams to provide solutions and results for any field based activity. With our additional experience, increasing economies of scale and drive to constantly improve, we believe we are the strongest field marketing company in Northern Ireland,” asserted Russell.

Strong relationships, trust, service - is that the secret to keeping customers and being in business 21 years? “Yes, but of course, there are the other magic numbers, such as the sales targets, the market share, year-on-year growth and the bottom line profit,” stated Allan Rutherford. “We have traditional values, but are very forward thinking and, as a SME, we are able to move quickly and efficiently to ensure our business continues to grow,” he concluded.
